Released in 1990, Social Distortion is the band's self-titled third studio album and their major-label debut on Epic Records. Produced by Dave Jerden, the record helped define Social Distortion’s signature combination of punk rock, rockabilly, blues, and country influences, pairing Mike Ness’s gritty vocals and hard-luck songwriting with a bigger, more polished guitar sound.

Featuring some of the band's most enduring songs, including “Story Of My Life,” “Ball And Chain,” and “Sick Boys,” the album also includes their punk-rock interpretation of Johnny Cash’s “Ring Of Fire.”
