Wire – 154
Originally released in 1979, 154 is the third studio album from British post-punk pioneers Wire and the final chapter of the band's groundbreaking run of 1970s albums. Moving further away from the stripped-down punk of Pink Flag and expanding on the experimentation of Chairs Missing, the album embraces atmospheric textures, unconventional song structures, electronics, and art-rock influences while helping define the emerging sound of post-punk. The title refers to the fact that Wire had played 154 live shows by the time of the album's release. Reaching #39 on the UK Albums Chart, 154 remains the band's highest-charting album and one of the most influential records of its era.
