Rancid's second self-titled album, commonly known as Rancid (2000), is one of the band's fastest, rawest, and most aggressive releases. Produced by longtime collaborator Brett Gurewitz, the album tears through 22 tracks, most clocking in at under two minutes, with virtually no letup. Matt Freeman's frantic bass work, distorted guitars, and Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen's raging vocals give the record a stripped-down hardcore-punk attack that stands apart from the ska and reggae influences heard on some of the band's other albums. Featuring favorites including "It's Quite Alright," "Let Me Go," "Antennas," "Radio Havana," and "Black Derby Jacket," this is Rancid at their most furious and direct.
